Trumpets in the dawn / Charles N. Heckelmann.

Summary:

"Lieutenant Zane Travis was surprised to find Mary Gunnison - whom he had loved and lost to a fellow officer - in Cheyenne. Against regulations she joined Travis' mail detail to meet her husband at Fort Fetterman. On the way they were ambushed by Indians, the detail was destroyed, and Mary was captured. Travis survived, though seriously wounded. Facing disgrace and a court-martial, he deserted in a reckless attempt to find Mary in the uncharted wilderness. From this dramatic opening the storm of conflict intensifies, and the scene shifts to Montana, where history was in the making as the Army launched an all-out campaign against the Sioux hostiles - a campaign that culminated in General Custer's final stand in the battle of the Little Big Horn."-- Provided by publisher.
